Trooper involved in five-car crash in Raleigh

— A North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper was involved in a five-car crash Saturday afternoon on Tryon Road near Lake Wheeler Road in Raleigh.

According to investigators, the crash happened at about 3 p.m. when 24-year-old Jeremy Dunlap fled from troopers. Troopers stopped Dunlap for a speeding violation, but as authorities approached his vehicle, he fled and hit four additional vehicles.

It was not immediately clear why Dunlap fled from law enforcement or where the chase began.

Dunlap is facing multiple charges including hit and run and resisting an officer.

According to the Highway Patrol, no one was seriously injured in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.

    So why does the headline say "Trooper involved in five-car crash". Sounds like the Trooper was NOT involved in the crash.

    Raleigh Joe. You have WRAL figured out. This bunch is so afraid to tell the correct story. If WRAL can't do it the PC way they won't do it at all.

    Ummm...I think we can probably guess why fled--he has something to hide! A law abiding citizen is not going to flee.

    I'm very confused. Was the trooper's car hit? If so, that would make 6 cars. Or did the trooper hit the guy who hit 5 other cars?

    This article really needs clarification.

    How about a different headline?

    Criminal flees traffic stop and causes five vehicle crash in Raleigh.

    The current headline implies the Trooper is the bad guy, not Jeremy Dunlap.
