— Slick roads Monday evening caused a state Highway Patrol trooper to crash his cruiser into a retaining wall in downtown Raleigh, authorities said.

The trooper’s vehicle hit the wall on McDowell Street, near Lane Street, just before 7:30 p.m.

No other cars were involved.

The trooper was not injured. He was on duty but not responding to a call at the time of the accident, authorities said.

I guess that I was raised differently from some folks, and perhaps that colors my viewpoint, but I appreciate, respect and feel a deep debt of gratitude towards those in Law Enforcement. Theirs is one of only a few jobs that can get you shot! I have read many claims in previous posts about salaries, cover-ups and abuse of the system, but honestly, there is not a single one of us on here who really knows the facts! I do know a couple of things though...If you and I are innocent until proven guilty, this and all officers should be given the same right. Secondly, had this been a taxi, or a plan wrapper government vehicle WRAL would probably not have released such a non-story. Lastly, logging as many miles and hours behind the wheel as officers do with split shift sleep and the stress of the job accidents can happen, but if this officer was in his personal car on his time and a ticket was called for, give him one, but not when he or she is on duty "PROTECTING AND SERVING" you and I.

"I do and he should have to pay every cent for the damaged vehicle. Reread the story or have someone read it to you. :)

Methinks you need someone to read the story to you. Do you even bother to read it before you post these inane comments? Where did it say he was speeding? Where did it say he was chasing girls? I mean, really. I think you just like posting so you can see your posts.

You all live in a county that is extremely safe to drive, shop, dine, and do all the things we love to do. This is thanks to troopers and other leo's in the county. Why WRAL chooses to feed the anti government element, I don't know. WRAL should be the premiere news organization in the state, be they choose to pick and choose stories to feed hatred for the government to keyboard cowards!

Just last Saturday night, I was driving down Ebenezer Road and noticed the car behind was crossing the yellow line repeatedly and speeding up and down erratically. I was very concerned he was going to hit me when we came to the stop sign. My girlfriend had pen and paper in hand ready to get his license plate and call 911.

She decided against it when it turned out it was a NC Trooper in a SUV behind us! I know all you LEO blind-faith supporters will say this didn't happen but it's the truth. We were in shock for the next 30 minutes of our drive.

"SO WHY IS SOME TRYING TO COVER-UP FOR HIM" prolessor

Cover up? Dude, it's a lead story on wral. Is your definition of a cover up a fender bender that is a lead news story?

  • thepeopleschamp Oct 27, 2009

Prolessor, funny how you demand the Trooper be fired for a mistake. Should you be banned from golo for all of your typographical and spelling errors??? lol
