Trooper spreads blame for his time in jail on wife's attempted murder

Bobby Regan's been in prison for almost 12 years. He was convicted in 2004 for shooting his then-wife at their Roxboro home as she stepped out of the shower.

Danielle Regan survived, and Bobby Regan is pointing the finger at his mistress as the one who fired the gun.

That is just one claim in a 1,000-page court filing from Regan's lawyers seeking a new trial.

Regan said his mistress, Linda Lee, had inappropriate relationships with the former Roxboro police chief and the lead investigator, which kept them from pursuing her as a suspect. He claims the crime scene was not being tested for fingerprints or DNA, and Lee wasn't tested for gunpowder residue.

Regan also claims that former District Attorney Joel Brewer was friends with Lee and did everything in his power to make sure all the evidence at the trial pointed to Regan. Brewer resigned from his office six years after Regan's conviction after pleading guilty to inappropriate conduct with women and dismissing cases in exchange for votes.

Regan also cited problems with the State Crime Lab at the time of his trial and questioned the testimony of two ballistics experts.

A date has yet to be set for a court to hear Regan's claims.

Linda Lee she cut a plea deal in the case and received probation. She is prohibited from owning a gun or having contact with Danielle Regan.
