Trio charged with stealing Progress Energy power lines

Posted April 16, 2012

— Wayne County deputies have charged three people with stealing Progress Energy power lines, authorities said Monday.

George Morris Daniels, 43, George Abram Daniels, 18, and Vivian Sada Daniels, 19, all of 4127 Lake Wilson Road in Wilson, were charged with felony injury to wires or fixtures used in the transmission of electrical power service, misdemeanor larceny and misdemeanor possession of stolen goods.

Deputies said about $500 in power lines were taken off poles in the northern part of Wayne County.

Meanwhile, Johnston County authorities said they are searching for whoever stole more than a mile of Progress Energy power lines north of Selma on Saturday. Authorities said the wiring was valued at nearly $5,000.

"I bet you won't say these wise cracks about Progress Energy when your lights are out. You'll be begging for them to get them back on even if it means they have to work out in a storm, sleet and snow, thunder storms, etc. " -- msha

Gee. A little over-dramatic this morning, don't ya' think?

Make them put it back. Seriously, make them reconnect it.

They are cutting off the neutral wire from the pole itself. The power then proceeds down the (usually bare) ground wire...highly dangerous for anyone who comes in contact with the ground wire later.

That's a bad way to get money to pay your power bill.
