The greater chance, and even that chance is only slight, for a few flakes comes around sunrise on Sunday. Both a cold front that rolls through early Saturday and another one on Sunday could wring moisture from the very dry atmosphere, Johnson said.

Temperatures rose into the 50s Friday, and the high on Saturday will likely be about 15 degrees lower. Despite the chilly temperatures, sunshine will be the dominant weather feature on the first day of the weekend.

The second front could produce another quick burst of snow showers across the Triangle as it heads through the area in the early-morning hours on Sunday.

"We're tracking this system, which is the Alberta Clipper style front we see a lot during the winter," said WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner.

"These systems have very little moisture to work with," Johnson said, "but they are very efficient."

"This will be a very quick event, if it happens at all," Gardner added.

Temperatures will be below freezing as the front moves through Sunday before dawn, so any precipitation that does fall may have a better chance of freezing.

"We can't rule out a few flakes," Johnson said, "But this won't be a high-impact event. Churches won't need to cancel services."

Once the front clears, sunshine will push daytime highs on Sunday to near 50 degrees. Highs will climb into the upper 50s on Monday.
