Triangle's midweek rain chances depend on track of low pressure

"Today is going to be quite pleasant if you've enjoyed our cooler weather," WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said. "We'll climb through the 40s and 50 this morning before settling in the upper 60s across the bulk of the Triangle."

High, thin clouds are possible in southern counties, especially during the afternoon, a sign of the transition to a potentially wetter pattern

The low pressure bringing clouds and rain to parts of Georgia and Florida Tuesday will track to the north and east by Wednesday morning, although its exact path is still unclear.

If it hugs the coast and moves up into South and North Carolina, the Triangle could see rain showers by midday Wednesday that will linger through the day on Thursday.

If the low tracks more off the coast, rain will be less likely and the area will see more clouds than anything else.

"Yesterday the models were bringing it along the North Carolina coast, but some of the more recent runs want to push it more offshore," Gardner said. "This is a developing situation, and it's going to be something worth watching tonight and early Wednesday."

Temperatures will remain below normal for the middle of the work week regardless of the low pressure system's path, topping out in the mid-60s on Wednesday and Thursday and low 60s on Friday.

Warmer air will begin building in over the weekend as sunshine returns. Highs Saturday and Sunday will be int he 70s, and temperatures could reach 80 degrees on Monday.
