Triangle Restaurant Week: Downtown Raleigh best bets

Posted January 23, 2013

Triangle Restaurant Week is well underway and if you are anything like me, there are still a lot more places that you would like to hit before the week is over.

I eat in downtown Raleigh all the time but mainly stick to the same places, so I use TRW as a chance to try out different restaurants downtown and see if I can mix up my normal routine.

Here are our picks for restaurants in downtown Raleigh that you don't want to miss out on this week:

Bia at Solas - We all know Solas as the fun club on Glenwood with a rooftop that is always packed on Friday and Saturday nights but do you know about Bia? Bia is located on the first floor of Solas and I can't think of a better week to give their new menu a try. Solas has always had a dining area and served food but Bia at Solas just opened in December with a new and improved menu and atmosphere. The restaurant is known for fusing classic flavors with French and Asian techniques and you can see this in their TRW menu, which gives you three courses for $30.

Bolt Bistro & Bar - Bolt has been on my to do list for a while now because I love their heated outdoor dining on Fayetteville Street. They have one of the largest TRW lunch and dinner menus I have seen! Their lunch is $10 and you get their soup of the day as well as your choice from eight entrees. They have something for everyone to choose from including a vegetarian option, seafood option and burger option. Their dinner is $30 and includes an amuse, first course, entree and dessert.  Bolt Bistro & Bar

Centro Mexican Restaurant - I love Mexican food, so of course I had to include Centro on our best bets for downtown. Located on Wilmington Street, I have been for drinks but have not tried out the food. I am looking forward to going for dinner this week and trying their "Poblano y Pollo Asado" off the TRW menu which is a roasted pepper stuffed with potatoes, portabella mushrooms and Oaxacan cheese. That is all topped with spicy gravy and grilled organic chicken. Sounds like perfect Latin comfort food to me. Their menu includes your choice of appetizer, entree and dessert for $30.

Mo's Diner - I feel that I am not a real Raleigh local yet because I have not been to Mo's Diner on Hargett Street, so I am making a point to get their this week! Their entrees tend to fall around the $20-$30 range so you get a great deal if you go this week. Their TRW menu includes your choice of a starter, entree and dessert for $30. I can't wait to try the grilled spicy shrimp and remoulade appetizer and then move on to the little river crab cake and remoulade for my entree. I don't see how I will have room for dessert!

Tuscan Blu - Tuscan Blu located on West Davie Street has a $10 lunch menu, dinner menus for $20 and $30 and wine by the bottle for 25 percent off during TRW week! Their menu includes vegetarian options, glutten free pasta and authentic Tuscan dishes. I want to give the vegetarian portobello ravioli a try.
