RALEIGH, N.C. — We start off this week with info about a local food truck hoping for a brick-and-mortar location!
KoKyu BBQ is seeking $46,000 to open a location in downtown Durham. Check out their Kickstarter campaign for more info, including some pretty awesome incentives like art by Bart Cusick, who has been responsible for the designs on the truck. Definitely consider donating - their duck fat tots alone are worth a location!!
Starting this weekend, Cat's Cradle will have a new back room bar for folks to go to hear live music, The Indy Week reported this week. The 160-capacity space is only accessible from the back of the building. It is located behind Fleet Feet Sports Store. Unlike Cat's, the Back Door will serve liquor. While it wasn't originally planned to be a live music venue, there are six shows booked there over the next few months. The first of those shows is Saturday.
We also found out this week that Twisted Fork will be celebrating 10 years in business by changing its menu and concept. It is closing on Sunday and reopening on Oct. 23 with a fun spin on American favorites. I'm excited for the tacos and burgers! The desserts will still be around, so no worries.
Wisconsin-based pizza deliver chain Toppers Pizza will open its Chapel Hill location the second week of December, according to The Daily Tar Heel. The Herald-Sun first reported earlier this year that the restaurant was moving into the old Gumby's location at 306 W. Franklin St. Toppers servers pizza, cheese sticks, grinders, wings and quesadillas.
Klara's Restaurant, located on Hillsborough Street in Raleigh near N.C. State, has closed, according to their Facebook page. They closed their Cary location earlier this year. According to the News and Observer, the closure of this Czech cuisine restaurant was due to the "struggling economy and lack of customers."
The News and Observer is reporting that Zinburger Wine and Burger Bar will open in early November at The Streets at Southpoint Mall in Durham. This chain offers gourmet burgers, salads, sides, milkshakes and wine. They will be located where Rockfish used to be.
Coming up this weekend:
Double Barley Brewing in Smithfield is holding its grand opening on Saturday. VIP tickets are $50 a person and you get food, tours and a special tasting with the brewers. The general admission grand opening is from 4-10 p.m.
