Triangle restaurant news (Jan. 24, 2014)

Posted January 24, 2014

— Raleigh's first craft distillery and a new Mexican restaurant in Apex are all in this week's Triangle restaurant report.

Bombshell Beer Company, the all-female brewery in Holly Springs that the NC Beer Guys told you about earlier this week, is holding its grand opening celebration on Saturday. There will be music and, of course, beer from noon to 11 p.m. in their taproom.

Raleigh might be getting its first craft distillery. Raleigh Rum Company plans to open by the end of the year, according to its website. Their Facebook page says a Kickstarter campaign is coming up next month. No word on their potential location.

Some exciting news for folks in north Raleigh. The Burger King in the Harvest Plaza on Strickland Road off of Six Forks Road will be demolished on Feb. 1, according to the Triangle Business Journal. A Chipotle Mexican Grill will be going up in its place. TBJ reports construction should begin in April.

A new coffee shop is opening in Durham on Parrish Street Saturday morning. Intrepid Life Coffee & Spirits is opening at 7 a.m. They serve coffee from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and alcohol from 5 p.m. to close.

Apex has a new Mexican restaurant. Ole Olea Tapas and Wine has opened in the Scotts Mill residential community, according to the News and Observer. It is sharing a space with Town Side Cafe. The cafe operates during the day and Tapas takes over for lunch Tuesday through Friday. They offer dinner Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday brunch 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Cameron Village's Sushi Gami is on the road to reopening. The News and Observer is reporting that the restaurant, which closed last summer after a fire, plans to reopen in the next 60 days.

Another item from the News and Observer: Blu Seafood and Bar owner Tim Lyons is planning to open Primal Food and Spirits in the Southpoint Crossing Shopping Center in Durham. It would be the Triangle's first gluten-free restaurant and feature "wood-fired" local meats and seasonal sides. They are planning to open in May or June.

Triangle Food Guy and Taste Carolina are reporting that a Zaxby's will be going up on Hillsborough Street in Durham. It will be located in the former home of Bergama Restaurant.

We talked about Britino's in Wake Forest a while back – and now they're open! They're a family sports restaurant, and hours are 11 a.m.-12 a.m. Monday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-2a.m. Friday-Saturday, and 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Sunday.
