Triangle Foodie News: Makus Empanadas sets opening date in Durham

Trophy Brewing and Pizza Company will open a second location Monday, just in time for the holidays. The doors will open at 3 p.m. at 656 Maywood Ave. The original location at 827 W. Morgan Street opened three years ago and has become known for its great beer and pizza.

We got word from Brad and Leanne Stewart that their bistro, Stewart’s Bistro up on Rogers Road in Wake Forest, opened this past Monday. Stewart’s Bistro is a specialty coffee, gourmet espresso and full breakfast (and lunch) coffee shop in Wake Forest. The place looks amazing!

Got word from reader Michael Hurley that San Marcos Mexican Restaurant out of Danville, VA is going into the former Crabtree Tavern location behind Crabtree Valley Mall. We confirmed it via their website (although they have the address wrong). No word on a timeline.

Saw on a Yelp post that north Raleigh is getting a Baker's Dozen Donuts in January! There's a sign up at 123 Plantation Square behind Triangle Town Center near First Watch. Cannot confirm if it is affiliated with the one in the South Hills shopping center on Buck Jones Road, but have to think it is. We will keep an eye on it.

Burger 21 announced this week that they will open their second Triangle-area location in the spring of 2016 in Raleigh’s Northridge shopping center. Mitch Neal and Keith Smith will open this location and are the gentlemen behind the Triangle’s first Burger 21 restaurant in Cary at 14220 Bradford Green Square.

Down in Garner, got a press release that Blaze Pizza has opened its newest location at 140 Cabela Drive. This marks the second Blaze Pizza location in the Triangle and statewide.

The taste of Argentina is coming to the Triangle, more specifically southwest Durham, in a matter of days - Dec. 28 to be exact! Makus Empanadas, located in Durham’s Hope Valley Commons shopping center, announced via social media this week that they will open the Monday after Christmas. Congratulations to brothers Hernan and Santiago Moyano and colleague Ricky Yofre!

Brewmasters Bar & Grill at 301 W. Martin St. in downtown Raleigh's Warehouse District has closed.

Things are gearing up for the 2016 version of Triangle Restaurant Week. It will be here before we know it. The next rendition will take place Jan. 25 through 31. Start planning your week now.

The 4th Annual Bull City Food & Beer Experience will be held next year on April 10, but tickets are already on sale. Visit the DPAC ticket center to avoid service charges.

Durham Magazine and Chapel Hill Magazine will sponsor the third annual TASTE: A Celebration of Food & Drink, happening from April 21 to 23, 2016. The event will feature more than 30 top local chefs and establishments in Durham, Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Raleigh. A portion of ticket proceeds will be donated to the Durham Branch of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina.
