RALEIGH, N.C. — If this week had a news theme, it has to be: Which food truck has the best week? Here are the candidates for the superlative:
KocinA opens its location at 2501 Blue Ridge Road in The Atrium office building today (Monday). The food truck will operate breakfast and lunch hours from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. If that is not enough excitement, Chef JP Murica will take over the Berkeley Café (217 Martin Street, Raleigh) on Tuesday. This is part of the food truck chef Takeover Tuesday series. The South American tapas menu is prix fixe set at $35. The following week will feature Chef Ryan Jacobson of Manna.
American Meltdown’s chef and owner Paul Inserra will be on this Sunday’s episode (“The Truck Stops Here”) of the Food Network’s Cutthroat Kitchen. Host Alton Brown will pit four food truck chefs in a breakfast sandwich showdown and a double-decker burrito battle. I’m curious to see what sort of sabotages we will see and how Chef Inserra will overcome them. The episode premieres on Sunday at 10 p.m.
Pho Nomenal Dumpling will also be on Food Network’s The Great Food Truck Race, which the sixth season premieres this Sunday at 9 p.m. (before American Meltdown’s appearance on Cutthroat Kitchen!)  If you have seen the promotions, you will see the black and pink food truck all over (including being towed!) and Sophia Woo quoted, “they need this more than ever.”  My heart (and stomach) are racing to see what happens!
Also, this evening WRAL will reveal the winners of the 2015 Out & About Voter’s Choice awards. One food truck will be named a fan favorite by the Out & About voters. I am curious to find out who you voted as your favorite.
