HENDERSON, N.C. — The Raleigh Road Outdoor Theatre, along with many of the nation's remaining drive-in theaters, is facing challenges due to the changing movie industry.

Movie studios have switched formats – from 35mm prints, which have been used since its invention, to digital projection. For many drive-ins, including the Raleigh Road Outdoor Theatre, there just isn't enough revenue to cover the costs involved with upgrading to a digital projector. New projectors can cost over $80,000.

The Triangle's only drive-in is in the running to win a new projection system, courtesy of Project Drive-In. To preserve this slice of American culture, the project, presented by Honda, will donate five new projectors to the drive-ins with the most votes at the end of the month.
You can vote for the Raleigh Road Outdoor Theatre daily. If they win, the theatre will host a free community event to showcase their new projector!
