DURHAM, N.C. — It is never too early to start prepping your team for this year's Triangle Corporate Battle of the Bands. With bragging rights on the line, the competition can be tough.

Ad agency McKinney announced that this year's event will be held Saturday, Sept. 20, at American Tobacco Campus in Durham, and all proceeds will benefit Urban Ministries of Durham.

"We know how professionals in the Triangle have these alter egos," UMD Executive Director Patrice Nelson said in a statement. "We see it at UMD all the the time - a corporate vice president wearing a hair net and serving a meal in the Community cafe or an account manager sorting donated clothes. It'll be fun to see them onstage playing drums or guitar at Battle of the Bands."

To date, the annual event has raised more than $650,000 for local charities.

Nelson is hoping UMD can raise about $100,000 through the Battle of the Bands. "That's enough money for UMD to end homelessness for 20 people. Every person and corporation that helps us do that is definitely a rock star to me. I'll be the loudest one cheering," she said.

Our parent company, Capitol Broadcasting Company, has participated in the past.

Companies local to the Triangle and in the surrounding areas are invited to enter their band at TriangleBattle.com.

Here's some entry details:

  • Bands are allowed to enter on a first-come, first-served basis. Sign up before Aug. 1 and you can register at a reduced price.
  • Bands perform 10-15 minute sets, depending on how many entrants.
  • Bands must have a minimum of three members and no more than 10.
  • Bands can include members from a client or an associate company but they majority of the bands must be people on the company's payroll.
  • Bands are judged on musicality, creativity and originality
  • The winners will be decided upon by a panel of celeb judges and audience text voting.

Makes us wish we were musically talented!! The Out and About team could definitely back-up dance for the CBC team this year if they need some extra folks on stage.
