Triangle chefs compete for classic car

Cooking for a Classic challenges chefs from top restaurants in and around Raleigh to compete against each other in a series of 15 meals, and you, the diner, are the judge.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Area chefs are competing not only for bragging rights but for a classic car in the upcoming Cooking for a Classic dining competition.

Cooking for a Classic challenges chefs from top restaurants in and around Raleigh to battle in a series of 15 meals, and you, the diner, are the judge. That means it's up to you to decide who wins the 1969 Corvette Stingray. Before each competition, chefs will choose their own menu and pairings, allowing them to showcase their unique talents, creativity and offerings without stipulations.

The dinners will kick off next month at 1705 Prime in Raleigh. The $50 ticket includes six courses and beverage pairings. Each guest who attends will be entered for a chance to win chef-designed auction packages.

All proceeds will benefit the Lucy Daniels Center's mental health programs for children and families in the Triangle.

Dinners run Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. throughout February and March. You can view the complete schedule of dinners and see which chefs are competing online, but some of the first dinners feature:

Feb. 20 - Flights vs. Catering Works

Feb. 21 - Sitti vs. Busy Bee Cafe

Feb. 22 - Angus Barn vs. Kamado Joe

As winners are selected, other dinners will be announced.
