Triangle autism conference planned in March

The All About Autism Expo will move into the N.C. State Fairgrounds for a weekend in March.

This is the second expo for Our Awareness, the non-profit group that puts on the event and helps families dealing with autism in other ways. The first was held last year in Maryland. Organizer Michele Swing, who founded the group and has a child diagnosed with autism, tells me that she hopes it becomes an annual event in both North Carolina and Maryland.

Swing aims to bring an event that will feature resources, advice, products and more. The majority of speakers and vendors are from the region. Swing tells me.

"It is important for the families to connect with the presenters and vendors and then be able to sign up for services with them," she wrote me in an email.

"Since every child on the spectrum is different, the idea is no matter what area your concerns are, you can find answers here," she writes. "From the newly diagnosed through transitioning to adulthood will be covered."

There will be special activities for kids, along with childcare for kids ages 2 to 12. Any proceeds from the event will go toward education grants for kids in the Triangle.
