Raleigh, N.C. — A trial date has been set for the capital murder case of a 30-year-old woman who was savagely attacked in her North Hills apartment last year.
The suspects in the slaying of Melissa Huggins-Jones will be tried March 2 in Wake County Superior Court. Ronald Lee Anthony of Raleigh, Travion Devonte Smith of Raleigh, and Sarah Rene Redden of Wake Forest were indicted on charges of first-degree murder.
Smith and Anthony could face the death penalty if convicted. Redden intends to plea and testify against the other suspects, attorneys said.
Huggins-Jones, who had recently moved to Raleigh from Tennessee, was killed May 14 in a homicide that shocked the North Hills community. An autopsy determined she died from repeated, savage blows to her head and neck.
A construction worker discovered her body after her 8-year-old daughter approached a crew working at the apartments and asked for help.
