Tree traps elderly woman in Snellville home

An elderly women was trapped in a Snellville house after a tree fell on her living room on Monday afternoon.

SNELLVILLE, GA — An elderly women was trapped in a Snellville house after a tree fell on her living room on Monday afternoon.

A neighbor who was on the phone with the elderly woman called 911 when they lost contact with her at about 3:30 p.m. When Gwinnett County fire crews responded to the house in the 2029 block of Abington Lane in Snellville.

The tree fell through the middle of the house and the elderly woman became trapped in the debris. She was freed by firefighters and taken to Eastside Medical Center in Snellville.

"Her injuries were described as non-life-threatening," said Gwinnett County Firefighter Capt. Tommy Rutledge. "The tree caused heavy damage to the structure."

Fire crews also saved a small dog from the home. The dog is reportedly doing fine and as turned over to the neighbor who called 911.
