Travelocity Roaming Gnome is ready for 'Battle of the Blues'

Posted March 5, 2014

The Travelocity Roaming Gnome stopped by Sugarland in Chapel Hill for some gelato on March 5, 2014.

— The Travelocity Roaming Gnome is finishing up his college basketball journey here in North Carolina. The spokesman for the travel website has been hitting games across the country this season.

With an appearance Saturday night at the UNC-Duke game on his schedule, the Roaming Gnome is getting to know the two college-towns.

But is he a Tar Heel or a Blue Devil? The Roaming Gnome is a shade in between the famous blues.

When I caught up with him on Wednesday, he was enjoying a chocolate milkshake and burger at Sutton's on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill. He later stopped at Sugarland for some gelato and a cupcake.

Andy Ives, the gnome's handler, said his traveling companion wants to check out the best places in Chapel Hill and Durham while they are in town. You can give them suggestions on where to visit via Twitter (@RoamingGnome) and Instagram (@RoamingGnome).

Roaming Gnome will be continuing his tour of Chapel Hill on Thursday and plans to check out the UNC campus in the afternoon. He will be in Durham and the Duke campus on Friday. If you see him, say 'hi' and take a photo. He loves the attention.

Fun gnome fact: There is only one Roaming Gnome. However, he does have a foam stunt double.

If you can't get enough of the Roaming Gnome, he will be appearing Saturday on ESPN's College Gameday and at the UNC-Duke game that night.

On Sunday night, you can catch him on "The Amazing Race" as part of a challenge. The show airs at 8 p.m. on WRAL. The appearance will be tied in with a contest, so tune in for details on how you can win a trip for two!
