— A CSX freight train stretching more than a mile was slated to travel through the Hay Street area at about 5 p.m. Tuesday, snarling rush hour traffic.

The train will travel at about 5 mph through Fayetteville and will need to stop in order to switch tracks, police said.

Bring your lawn chairs...it is going to be a slow one. I lived in Fayetteville for over 30 years...this isn't news...

"There was a story about I-40 being closed last evening due to the standing water."
has anyone seem anything about I-40 being closed due to vp cheney attending a private fund raiser?

The train issue in downtown Fayetteville has always been an issue since they have to stop in the middle and switch the track. A train that long... going that slow... at that part of town...during rush hour is a big hassel. I appreciate the heads up and will find another route.

If they only had a tunnel like they talk about in Cary, then this would be a non-issue.
