The Raleigh City Council voted Tuesday to help fund a fix for Tryon Road.

Residents along the road in south Raleigh petitioned for a bridge to straighten a curve on the road they said was the source of a series of wrecks.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation agreed to pursue the project if the city picked up some of the cost. Raleigh will pay about $1.8 million, or about a third of the estimated total.

The city council did not identify where the funds for the project would come from.
