It just wasn't a good day for I-40 in that area. Two lanes closed eastbound due to a wreck and this vehicle fire westbound. Hope everyone was ok. Funny to see impatient people though.

    Thanks for your response.

closing all the lanes was a little ridiculous. Almost as stupid as the plastic pipe with a little purple tape causing a bomb scare a few months ago along side 85 I think it was in durham? That's where common sense needs to be utilized.

To put it simply, something combustible (plastic, wiring etc) coming into contact with something hot (exhaust) or an electrical short.

I plead ignorance when it comes to cars, but what are some of the reasons cars catch fire in traffic? There were two car fires that I heard of in rush hour traffic this evening. This is a serious question, so don't bother calling me stupid. Thanks.

    Cars only explode in movies.

Really USVET.....c'mon now! That is just common sense!

All I need to know is whether it was an Audi, a Jeep, or Ford/GM.. Other makes don't spontaneously combust like that.

Ummm, how about a car's on fire? Do you want to drive by it, even on the other side of the median, when it explodes and sends shrapnel everywhere?

    I hope you are kidding
