Mother, daughter killed in Mount Olive collision

"A lot of people just don't look. They don't pay attention," said one neighbor who didn't want to give her name.
She said she once brought towels to an accident victim only to see her die at the scene.
"I don't think I can go out there to assist or to help anymore, because it was devastating to see that," she said.
The most wreck happened at about 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Troopers said 73-year-old Mary Jones pulled into the path of the truck. She and her passenger, her mother, Mary Smith, 90, died instantly.
"He did everything he could to get it to stop," Trooper Bryan Leonard said of the truck driver. "He laid down 60 feet of impressions before impact and ended up in the median between the south and northbound lanes of 117."
The driver of the truck was treated for minor injuries and released from an area hospital.
