Raleigh, N.C. — Drivers are encouraged to use an alternate route this weekend as crews work on Interstate 40 East in Wake County, the North Carolina Department of Transportation said Friday.
Crews will close the two left lanes of I-40 East from just west of Harrison Avenue to just west of the split of I-40 and Wade Avenue, from 9 p.m. Friday, until 6 a.m. Monday.
The closure is part of a widening project for the 6.2-mile stretch of I-40 from Wade Avenue to east of the Jones Franklin Road bridge. The project is anticipated to be complete by June 30, 2011.
People traveling on I-40 East are encouraged to use a signed alternate route – I-40 East to I-540 (Exit 283) to U.S. 64 Bypass West to I-440 East and back to I-40.
