Stimulus to fund four area highway projects
More than $102 million in federal stimulus money will pay for 17 highway projects statewide, officials said Friday.

RALEIGH, N.C. — More than $102 million in federal stimulus money will pay for 17 highway projects statewide, officials said Friday.
Bids on the projects came in almost 25 percent below state Department of Transportation estimates, officials said.
The following contracts were awarded for work in the Triangle:
- Resurfacing 11 miles of Interstate 40, from west of Morgan Road in Johnston County to the Sampson County line. The $2.2 million contract was awarded to S.T. Wooten Corp. of Wilson, and work is scheduled to begin July 13 and be completed by Nov. 15.
- Resurfacing 23.2 miles of U.S. Highway 64 between the Franklin-Nash county line and Winstead Avenue in Nash County. The $3.3 million contract was awarded to S.T. Wooten Corp., and work is scheduled to start July 13 and be completed by Nov. 15.
- Resurfacing and shoulder reconstruction on 3.8 miles of Interstate 540 between I-40 and U.S. Highway 70 in Wake and Durham counties. The $2.2 million contract was awarded to C.C. Mangum Co. of Raleigh, and work is scheduled to start July 7 and be completed by May 27, 2010.
- Completing grading work on 1.4 miles of the Fayetteville Outer Loop, from west of Bragg Boulevard to 1.3 miles east of Murchison Road. The $52.6 million contract was awarded to R.E. Goodson Construction Co. Inc. of Darlington, S.C., and work is scheduled to begin June 29 and be completed by July 1, 2012.
