RALEIGH, N.C. — Wake Forest Road reopened Saturday afternoon following a broken water main on Thursday.

A construction crew Thursday afternoon hit a water main under the road between Six Forks Road and the Interstate 440 Beltline. The crew, which is working for the state Department of Transportation on a road-widening project, was unsuccessful in trying to repair the damaged main, so the city's Public Utilities Department assumed control of the repair effort Friday.

Six municipal water customers were without service.

Last week, a construction crew ruptured a gas main in the same area, closing all northbound and southbound lanes for several hours.
