HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — An accident involving a tractor-trailer carrying frozen meat forced the closure of two lanes of Interstate 85 North through Orange County on Saturday night.

The Greensboro Highway Patrol was working the scene at mile marker 161, just west of Hillsborough, shortly before 8 p.m. Two lanes remained open throughout the accident and clean-up, said state troopers.

One lane reopened by midnight, and troopers said they expected to reopen the far right lane in the next few hours. Traffic delays through the area have cleared up, troopers said.

The accident, which occurred shortly after 6 p.m., involved a tractor-trailer loaded with cold meat, officials said.

The truck's front left tire blew out, sending the vehicle crashing into the guardrail. The tractor-trailer came to rest on its side, and frozen meat spilled across the highway.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident, and no one was injured, troopers said.

The far right lane was closed while the spilled meat was loaded onto another tractor-trailer. Six people were involved in clearing the frozen meat off the highway.
