DOT: No Immediate Plans To Fix Latest Batch Of 'Rough Roads'

Durham's Grandale Drive comes in at No. 6 on the "Rough Roads" list. The road cuts across southern Durham, south of Interstate 40. Drivers who voted for Grandale Drive said increased development has increased traffic on the old two-lane road to the point where it is falling apart.

DOT officials said there are not any changes planned in the near future.

"That is inner-city Durham, but that is our road to fix, and we don't have any plans for Grandale at this time," said DOT engineer Jon Nance.

Another road where drivers are making some noise is No. 5 on the list -- Sunnybrook Road in Raleigh. The road runs from Rock Quarry Road to New Bern Avenue in Raleigh. Its condition is making some drivers run out of patience.

"It's just a constant something you know, the road is not smooth, but a constant noise, and you hope your tires are fine," said driver Jamie Kearney.

Sunnybrook Road carries some emergency traffic to WakeMed and feeds many businesses and subdivisions. The DOT officials said there is not a timetable for repairs to the road.

"We don't have anything planned in that area other than just routine maintenance at this time, but again, that's a road we hear a lot about as far as pavement conditions," Nance said. "We've got it on our list. Like a lot of roads, it just hasn't made it to the top."
