CLAYTON, N.C. — Eastbound drivers on U.S. 70 Business in the Clayton area will have to pay a price in convenience now in order to get easier driving on a Clayton Bypass later.

Work to construct a traffic loop for the U.S. 70 Clayton Bypass means the state Department of Transportation must close Business 70 between Gordon Road and Sadisco Road, the department said in an announcement.

The closure began Wednesday morning and is slated to last until the end of September, NCDOT said.

NCDOT's recommended detour is U.S. 70 east to Swift Creek Road to U.S. 70 Business east.
