— A southbound lane of Interstate 85 in Durham reopened about 2 p.m. Tuesday after crews cleared a load of lumber that had spilled from an overturned tractor-trailer.

The accident occurred at about 4:45 a.m. Tuesday on southbound I-85 near Redwood Road. A second tractor-trailer hit the lumber in the roadway, and two other vehicles wrecked in the process. No injuries were reported.

Crews moved the lumber to the median of the roadway, but still had to remove it. Officials kept the lane closed for the workers' safety until they had removed all the wood.

A second accident occurred in the southbound lanes in the traffic back-up related to the first accident.

I trust a trucldriver any day over some of the cars driven by fools. The driver of the trucks respect the fact of their size and power. Most times they get in a spot where they have to cut off a regular vehicle is because some speeding dummy caused the truck to have to make a fast movement change which is hard to do. I learned the hard way about the mirrors one time and I remember it now each time I see a trucker.

All I can say is, this morning when I came through I was thankful for backroads 'cause that traffic was backed up for miles!!!

Everybody, just respect those around you and show some consideration to fellow drivers on the road and 90 per cent of all accidents would never happen.

Hey spittin, to bad the the knowledge you boast of is completely backa--wards. More NHTSA stats sow that over 70% of the truck v. car collissions are the fault of the (drum roll please.....) CAR, TA-DA!!!! I've been in 3 such crashes. All were the fault of the other driver.

Growing up my father always blamed the women drivers, My mother blamed men drivers, my grandparents blamed it on young wiper snappers. I guess everyone has to blame on someone! No one ever thinks of looking in a mirror.

You cagers need to get off trucker backs. First of all they are the back bone of our country. Secondly in my years of riding a bike they are the least likely to push me out of my lane on my motorcycle. Thisisme is correct you 4-wheelers give trucks no respect untill they wreck. Just wait untill its your children that the truck flatens b/c you tought them they shouldnt be on the road

ALSO IF YOU CAN'T SEE THEIR MIRROWS YOU ARE IN THE BLIND SPOT AND THEY CAN'T SEE YOU.

and that is why Detroit created horns. And even when you lay down on it, they still come over. When you are right beside of a truck and they put on the signal and come over, what other choice do you have? At that point, I can see their mirrors!! They need to be more careful. And because they need more time/distance to stop, they need to be more careful. I see cars that are careless too, but truckers carelessness can cause a lot more damage to everyone involved.

I know a loaded truck is going to be slow, but I also know an unloaded one is quick. If I'm stuck on an uphill light, I'll pass the truck. I flash my lights day or night to let a trucker over, and I try not to ride their blind spots. I have to agree that many truckers push themselves too far and that can be very dangerous. I just completed the 755 mile drive from Memphis back here, and the truckers are the LEAST of the troublesome on the road.

MAYBE IF THE LITTLE 4WHEELERS WOULD PAY MORE ATTENTION TO SOMETHING THAT SO MUCH LARGER THAN THEY ARE THINGS LIKE THIS WOULD NOT HAPPEN. JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN STOP WITH IN 4 FEET DOESN'T MEAN A TRUCK CAN. SUDDEN STOP, LOAD SHIFT, PEOPLE HURT OR KILLED. MOST OF THE TIME IT IS NOT THE TRUCKERS FAULT. ALSO IF YOU CAN'T SEE THEIR MIRROWS YOU ARE IN THE BLIND SPOT AND THEY CAN'T SEE YOU.
