<b>VASS, N.C.</b> — A tractor-trailer lost its load of crushed cars on U.S. Highway 1 between Vass and Southern Pines Tuesday morning.

The wreck closed southbound lanes of the highway, and authorities restricted northbound motorists to one lane so that traffic could move in both directions on the two northbound lanes.

Police reopened the whole road about 3:15 p.m.

There was no word on the cause of the wreck.
