Time is running out to voice your opinion on a proposed toll road on Interstate 540.

State officials said the only way to pay to extend I-540 from I-40 to Highway 55 is to charge drivers a $2 toll.

Officials also said the 18-mile extension of I-540 will cost $800 million.

Those interested have until Monday to provide input on the plan to the North Carolina Turnpike Authority.

This is the worst thing you can do, that is a poor county anyway and you just keep taxing them any way you can. If you put a toll down there then put one on all of 540. WHAT PART OF DISCRIMINATION DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND. YOU ARE DISCRIMINATING AGAINST THE POOR.

I agree with slugolicious on a previous post as to a NC Education Lottery, we should start a NC Transportation Lottery or vote in some more school/road bonds.

I have been living in Raleigh for 46 years after coming here as a teenager. I know NC DOT has been talking about and working towards HWY 540 for over 30 of those years yet they continue to allow construction in the proposed pathways. Where has all the money gone? in the pockets of the politicians who can LEGALLY vote themselves a raise. Hey, maybe I can do that where I work, go into payroll and tell them I voted myself a raise of say $40 grand a year. Do you think that would fly. They would tell me to fly straight to "you know where".

ALL POLITICAL. !!!!!!!!! NO TOLLS!!!!!!!!!! Get the money from THEIR pockets...

I'm for the toll--toll the whole road of course!

Are they considering putting toll booths on the part that's already finished? I think the people who drive on the part that's open and cost too much should pay their fair share. They can easily add toll booths to the entrance or exit ramps.

I disagree with the tolls as well. It's not to get the road built that tolls are wanted by politicians, but to get it built faster.

As far as which side of 540 got built first, I honestly don't know for sure, but I assume it may have to do, in part anyway, with where most of the people who work in RTP live which may be North Raleigh.
