All this week from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m., the Raleigh Police Department, the Wake County Sheriff's Office and the Highway Patrol are patrolling Interstates 40, 440 and 540 to crack down on aggressive drivers.
"The goals of this project are reduced traffic collisions, traffic fatalities and injuries through the aggressive enforcement of motor vehicle laws," said Lt. Tommy Pulley, of the state Highway Patrol.
At one point Monday, a state Highway trooper said he issued 12 citations in one hour. Another state trooper cited someone for drunken driving on I-40 early in the morning.
The Highway Patrol's motor carrier enforcement officers are also patrolling roadways where frequent tractor-trailer violations occur in Operation Size and Weight.
Authorities will also enforce the "Move Over" law, which requires motorists to reduce their speed and move over for emergency vehicles.
