A potential roadblock for the Highway 70 bypass project is avoided.

Johnston County Commissioners voted Monday to provide more environmental protection for the dwarf wedge mussel, an endangered mussel found in Swift Creek.

The move means stricter storm water control for hundreds of acres of land. The DOT said it would not move forward with the plan without the protection.

Construction for the Highway 70 Bypass is expected to start in May.
