Road Work On Eastbound I-40 Causes Traffic Delays

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Road construction caused some major traffic troubles Wednesday in Wake County.

Road work near the Wade Avenue exit closed down one of three eastbound lanes of Interstate 40. Cars were backed up for miles.

The state Department of Transportation re-opened the lane late in the afternoon to help with rush hour traffic. Officials plan to close it at 9 p.m. to finish the work.

Road troubles from construction are no stranger to the stretch of highway. Over the summer, the DOT shut down the

between Wade and Harrison Avenues to fix a drainage pipe.
