DURHAM, N.C. — Home and business owners along Guess Road in Durham are all asking the same question: When will the roadwork be finished?

In 1999, the state Department of Transportation started widening a three-mile section of Guess Road from Interstate 85 to Latta Road.

DOT crews will temporarily close northbound I-85 at Guess Road from Tuesday until Thursday. The closure will be in place from 12 a.m. until 6 a.m. each morning, weather permitting.

Also, southbound I-85 at Guess Road will be closed on Nov. 19 and Nov. 20 from 12 a.m. until 6 a.m. each morning, weather permitting.

During both closings, police will direct traffic up the Guess Road exit and back onto I-85.

The state now says it can finish the project by the end of the year. Engineers say problems with the contractor, utilities and redesigns have caused the delay.
