Highway Patrol Gives List Of Most Dangerous Roadways

state Highway Patrol

is out with its list of Wake County's most dangerous roads.

Interstate 40 topped the list with 420 wrecks so far this year. U.S. 401 was second with 140 crashes. U.S. 64 has had 138 crashes so far this year. U.S. 1 is fourth at 112 collisions. Highway 50 rounds out the top five with 111.

The totals do not include wrecks worked by city or county officers.

The patrol said distracted drivers and speeders cause the most wrecks. Troopers will use the data to adjust patrols and direct more resources to the most dangerous areas.
