Six people were injured when two cars collided head-on Friday afternoon on Jones Sausage Road in Garner.

According to the state Highway Patrol, Karen Martinez had four passengers in her Volvo when she hit a Ford driven by Kimberly C. Davis. Sgt. Jorge Brewer, spokesman for the patrol, said it wasn't clear which vehicle crossed the center line to cause the wreck.

Initially, a trooper on the scene said that an infant was killed in the wreck, but Brewer could not confirm that death. He said the infant was among the six people taken to WakeMed.

The wreck happened in the four o'clock hour, and troopers closed the road to traffic as emergency personnel extracted the people from the vehicles involved. Exit 303 off Interstate 40 was closed, as was Jones Sausage Road between I-40 and Garner Road.

The wreck was cleared by 6 p.m.

Was someone texting or on their cellphone at the time of the wreck?

Someone removed the infant death statement from the story. Must have been a mistake the first time?

Praying for all involved. So sad when an infant or child is taken so early in life.

So very sad! Condolences for all and hoping the injured recover quickly and fully.

May the lord comfort all involved.
