No. 9 on the original "Rough Roads" list ended up No. 1 on the fix-it list. Drivers complained about where New Hope Road exits onto the Highway 64 Bypass in Wake County. DOT engineers say it was a poorly installed drainage pipe. The contractor fixed the trouble days after WRAL's report.

Rugged Raleigh roads in the downtown area rated No. 7 from viewers. DOT crews have filled the potholes and added new asphalt on McDowell and Dawson Streets. The new pavement runs from Jones Street to the beltline, and crews are still adding final touches.

Banks Road in southern Wake County got enough votes to rank No. 3 on the "rough roads" list. Engineers said money was not in the budget for a total fix, but potholes and rough sections are now patched.

In Wake Forest, U.S. 1-A from Capital to the new Highway 98 bypass rated No. 2 on the list as many complained about the potholes.

Interstate 85 in Vance County was the clear rough ride leader. DOT engineers said the money is not available for a much-needed overhaul. They did, however, get $500,000 to patch the worst sections. That work will be going on throughout the summer.
