A man died Friday afternoon after his pickup truck hit the cab of a semi-truck head-on. Trooper Travis Holloman of the state Highway Patrol said Willie Lee Banks, 77, likely died on impact.

Holloman said Banks, of Rocky Mount, was going southbound toward Battleboro on U.S. Highway 301 when he crossed the line, sideswiped another pickup truck and plowed into the cab of the larger truck.

The semi-truck driver, Carl Davis, 54, of Rocky Mount, suffered a hand injury and chest pains. The second pickup driver, Calvin Clark, 65, of Rocky Mount, took himself to a hospital with unknown injuries.

Troopers have not yet determined what caused Banks' pickup to leave its lane.

Traffic on U.S. 301 was closed in both directions while troopers and firefighters responded to the crash.

One driver killed, don't think all Ok, and a miracle going a happen.

Gosh...praying for the families envolved. Not a good thing right here at Christmas. There are many wrecks around that stretch of road by the swamp. I am hoping it wasn't someone from RMEP envolved, as I know they are wrapping up things before the Christmas break.

May God Bless all involved and the family of the driver that has passed away.

Dear lord this looks bad. Please deliver a miracle today!

Trust all are ok. Prayers for all envolved. Thank goodness for the great public servants we have in NC-police-fire-rescue!!.

Merry Christmas to all.
