Hammond Road traffic shift
RALEIGH, N.C. — As crews continue to work in the Fortify zone south and east of downtown Raleigh, drivers who frequent Hammond Road will notice a traffic pattern change Wednesday.

The change will affect how drivers on Hammond Road access Interstate 40 East.

Instead of turning right and using a loop to get on the highway, drivers headed south on Hammond from downtown Raleigh will use a left-hand turn lane and turn left onto a new ramp.

Northbound drivers who have been turning left to access I-40 will now turn right, also utilizing the new ramp.

State Department of Transportation officials said the change is needed so that crews can safely continue doing interchange work in the area.
