— Traffic is moving again on U.S. Highway 70 in Durham after a tractor-trailer slammed into a utility pole, causing power lines to come down in the roadway.

Traffic along U.S. 70 between Lynn Road and Pleasant Drive in Durham was detoured for hours Wednesday afternoon. Westbound drivers were detoured onto Pleasant Drive and got back onto the highway at Lynn Road, while eastbound drivers were diverted onto Lynn Road and rejoined the highway at Pleasant Drive.

Three other vehicles were involved in the 1 p.m. wreck, but no injuries were reported, police said.

On the map, red designated the part of the closed road. Blue designated the detour route.

This is a very dangerous stretch of road for commuters. As much as I would hate the inconvenience associated w installing a median, this road must have one. I avoid this section of 70 on my way home from RTP daily by using Sherron Rd, which is also too heaviy travled.

Actually the officer was involved in an additional accident, as he was responding to the original accident.
