RALEIGH, N.C. — A dump truck driver has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and unsafe movement after a 33-year-old woman died in a wreck on U.S. Highway 401 near Old State Road.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Calvin Louis Woods Jr. was driving a dump truck southbound on U.S. Highway 401 when he attempted to make a U-turn.

Woods had to back up during his U-turn attempt, troopers said, and Suzanne Nickol Baker, of Raleigh, struck the back of the dump truck as she traveled north on 401.

Baker died at the scene.

An investigation of the wreck is ongoing.
