ABERDEEN, N.C. — A tractor-trailer driver was accidentally run over by his own truck Thursday afternoon near Aberdeen, authorities said.

The accident happened shortly after noon on Carolina Road off N.C. Highway 211, near the Hoke County line.

State troopers said the driver had stopped his truck and had gotten out to check something. As he walked around the rig, the vehicle started to roll. The man was run over by at least one set of the tires.

The driver had injuries to both arms and one leg. He was taken by ambulance to the landing pad at FirstHealth Hospital, where a helicopter from Duke Hospital picked him up.

Crestline Fire & Rescue, Aberdeen Fire & Rescue, Moore County EMS and the State Highway Patrol responded.
