Tractor-trailer fire closes I-40 for hours

The brakes of a tractor-trailer hauling frozen chickens sparked a fire along I-40 East, near N.C. Highway 751, shortly before midnight Tuesday, troopers said.

DURHAM, N.C. — A tractor-trailer closed two lanes of Interstate 40 in Durham for about five hours early Wednesday, state troopers said.

The brakes of a tractor-trailer hauling frozen chickens sparked a fire along I-40 East, near N.C. Highway 751, shortly before midnight Tuesday, troopers said. The fire burned the rear of the trailer, but no one was injured.

Two of three eastbound lanes of the interstate were closed until shortly before 5 a.m. while crews cleaned up from the fire.
