Tractor-trailer critically injures man mowing US 64

A man mowing U.S. Highway 64 in eastern North Carolina was critically injured Monday morning when a tractor-trailer ran into his mower, authorities said.

WILLIAMSTON, N.C. — A man mowing U.S. Highway 64 in eastern North Carolina was critically injured Monday morning when a tractor-trailer ran into his mower, authorities said.

Henry Junior Kornegay, 59, of Ayden, was mowing near Exit 514 on U.S. 64, in Williamston, shortly after 9:30 a.m. when a truck driven by Curtis Beard Jacobs hit his mower, authorities said.

Kornegay, a contractor hired by the state Department of Transportation, was taken to nearby Martin Medical Center and then transferred to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

Jacobs, 35, of 700 Church St. in Fairmont, has been charged with driving while impaired and reckless driving.
