Toys R Us has announced that they are closing or selling all of their 735 U.S. Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us stores affecting over 30,000 jobs.

The closing is no great surprise after they filed for bankruptcy six months ago. Competitive prices and product variety from retailers including Amazon, Target and Walmart lured Toys R Us shoppers away from the toy retailer.

The store closings should take place over the next few months and the online store will be operating for the next couple weeks.

There is a chance that the stores could be sold. According to an article from Couponsinthenews.com, "Toys “R” Us said it’s hoping to sell up to 200 of its combination Toys “R” Us/Babies “R” Us stores as a package deal with its Canadian stores."

If you have any unused Toys R Us gift cards, now is the time to use them. They may not be valid for much longer.

What do you think about the closing?
