Tough morning commute in Durham

Posted October 13, 2008

— Monday morning commuters had a tough day in Durham, along with emergency officials who had to deal with at least three accidents on the Durham Freeway, N.C. Highway 147.

One of the accidents, between Ellis Road and Alexander Drive, closed travel lanes on the southbound side, and traffic had to get by on the shoulder, the state Department of Transportation said.

Durham officials reported two accidents between South Alston and South Briggs avenues.

There were no immediate reports of injuries in the crashes.

Your right bhinkley, the most dangerous drivers on 147 aren't the speeders it's those that sit in the left lane and won't let others pass. It bunches up the traffic something awful. And don't get me started about not using turn signals what has happened to common courtesy?

People certainly are stressed, but the thing that's really missing, and in a lot more places and circumstances than just driving, is common coutesy. No one seems to care much about the other guy anymore.

Anything less than mock 3 on 147 and your taking a big chance of loosing control do to the others jet wash. I've been commuting on 147 for 10 years now and can count the number of cops I've see watching for speeders easily on two hands.

People are stressed and stress doesn't dissipate upon getting in one's vehicle. Its not about leaving earlier...its about driving like you're not the only person on the road.

Too many people trying to be first and not taking into account that they should have left earlier!
Folks just need to SLOW DOWN!!! Nothing is important enough to die or wreck you car for. Leave earlier!
