Posted September 3

— The National Weather Service says a small tornado has damaged several outbuildings and knocked down tree in eastern North Carolina.

Forecasters said the twister in Lenoir County near Pink Hill was one of a number of storms that caused scattered damage across a large part of North Carolina on Friday.

The weather service said the EF-1 tornado was on the ground for about a half-mile, tearing the roofs off several out buildings. Winds in the twister were estimated around 90 mph.

Downed trees and other damage were reported from strong winds in several other places, including Charlotte and Sanford.
