Tropical storm Alberto expected to stay offshore
"Alberto's not likely to have a major impact on us," WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said. "It's a very weak storm. Its path will actually keep it well off the coast of North Carolina."

Alberto is moving toward the south near 5 mph with maximum sustained winds near 40 mph. While Alberto is becoming less organized and weakening, dangerous surf conditions, including rip currents, are possible along the coasts of northeastern Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina through Monday. Elsewhere in the East, rain showers continue to brush the coasts of the Mid-Atlantic and Lower New England. Behind this activity, rain and thunderstorms form along and ahead of a cold front, from areas of western Michigan through western Tennessee into areas of northern Mississippi. At satellite radar showing new tropical storm Alberto down to our south its -- along just offshore of South Carolina and Georgia this morning. As we take a look at the statistics associated waiting here. You'll see that it's located at 31 point seven north 79 point three west with maximum winds of about fifty miles per hour he CA in the yellow here in the area along the southern South Carolina coast and central coast air. Where we do you have a tropical storm watch in effect meaning at least some potential for tropical storm winds within 24 hours that could end up getting extended to the south over Georgia. Season's first tropical storm likely to pass by NC
The Atlantic Ocean's first tropical storm of 2012 was churning off South Carolina Sunday, but it is likely to have only minor impacts along the North Carolina coast, said WRAL meteorologist Aimee Wilmoth.
