Today@NCCapitol (May 12): Here comes the budget
The state House budget subcommittees will begin reviewing portions of the chamber's spending plan Thursday.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Good morning and welcome to Today@NCCapitol for Thursday, May 12. Here's what's going on around the state legislature:
BUDGET: House leaders are putting pieces of their $22 billion budget plan in front of budget subcommittees. Committees on Education, Transportation and General Government meet at 8:30 a.m., with other budget subcommittees committee meeting throughout the day.
The subcommittees will review the documents handed down from top budget writers. They are scheduled to make amendments before those pieces are stitched into the full budget plan that will be released next week.
SENATE JUDICIARY I (10 a.m.): The committee takes up Senate Bill 734, a bill that would make a fast-acting antidote to opioid overdoses available to anyone who asks for it at a pharmacy.
HOUSE LOCAL GOVERNMENT (10 a.m.): Lawmakers will review a bill to allow Wake County towns to donate retired K-9 dogs to their handlers.
SENATE FLOOR (11 a.m.): The Senate takes up House Bill 474, a bill that says track-out programs do not have to meet standards for day care programs.
HOUSE FLOOR (11 a.m.): The House takes up House Bill 958, a proposal to create felony offenses for killing or seriously injuring someone while piloting a boat under the influence of drugs or alcohol. WRAL.com will carry this meeting live online.
